Southeast Christian Church
In 1962, Southeast Christian Church
was formed and held its services in a small basement
of an elementary school in Louisville, Kentucky.
The church started with 63 charter members and
grew quickly, causing the services to be moved.
When membership grew to 500 people, their second
facility was built, only to be outgrown soon thereafter.
The church moved to another building that could
hold 2,200 members.
In eight years, the church reached
an average attendance of 10,000, which created
the need for a new facility. A new building was
constructed and now the church has a current attendance
of approximately 14,000 people. Southeast Christian
Church is now the third largest church in the
country with a main sanctuary featuring three
levels, a state-of-the-art sound system and six
large screens for projection. The main sanctuary
has the capacity to hold 9,100 people and the
choir loft holds a 300 member choir.
The church also contains a fellowship
hall appropriate for meetings and small performances
and holds 800 people. A small wedding chapel,
which holds 450 people, was built inside the church
to give weddings a more intimate feel. An education
wing is also located in the building where bible
study, fellowship groups, support groups and childrens
classes are held. There is also an area in the
wing for infant classes and a fully equipped nursery.
A special center, the Youth and Activity Center,
was designed for the younger members of the church
to meet and worship. This center also contains
four elementary-size basketball courts, racquet
ball courts, weight rooms, aerobic rooms, walking/
running tracks and other assembly rooms.
The building contains 478 Monarch
panic and fire exit devices on its doors. All
of the devices are 18 Series vertical rod and
rim devices with a US 10B finish. The devices
are located in all rooms that can hold 50 people
or more, corridor doors and all stairwell doors.
