Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
and Museum is a 150,000 square feet facility that
serves as the permanent home of the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame. Designed by internationally renowned
architect I.M. Pei, the building is a striking
state-of-the-art facility that rises above the
shores of Lake Erie in downtown Clevelands
North Coast Harbor.
A steady stream of visitors come
to view exhibits and films that showcase rock
and roll and its impact on society. Exhibits are
designed to give visitors a unique, interactive
experience. A 200-seat indoor theater hosts films,
lectures, press conferences and performances.
Built through a public-private
partnership, the $92 million project first opened
in September1995, and a new Hall of Fame wing
later opened in April 1998. The building is a
composition of bold geometric forms and dramatic
cantilevered spaces that are anchored by a 162-feet
tower. The building houses more than 55,000 sqaure
feet of exhibition areas, as well as administrative
offices, an HMV music store and a cafe.
Monarch 18 Series exit devices
are used extensively throughout the building,
on fire exit doors, stairway doors and pairs of
recessed doors that close off specific theater
and exhibit areas for fire protection and security.
